We are really pleased to announce our new album Sun Bridge, which will be out on Bella Union on 6 October.
It’s available for pre-order now and you can watch the video for ‘Everything at the End of Everything’ below:
Sun Bridge is named after the way a still lake offers the ideal conditions for the sun’s reflection to resemble a bridge across the water. It’s a record that pushes out in different directions from what we’ve done before, simultaneously stretching out the ambience while sharpening the focus. As the press release puts it: “Between its lustrous dream-pop surfaces and hidden depths, it’s an album that reflects on how uncertain times can be the seed-bed for change: or, for a bridge to extended adventures.”
We produced it ourselves, doing initial tracking with engineer Iggy B at Bella Union studios and Holy Mountain in Hackney, then working in our own rehearsal space in Greenwich over a few months. We then handed it over to Jeff Zeigler at Uniform Studios in Philadelphia, who has worked with Kurt Vile, War on Drugs, Steve Gunn and makes awesome music himself, like this collaboration with harpist Mary Lattimore. Jeff mixed it, knitted the disparate parts together and expanded the sonics with additional production work.
We’ve got some new dudes in the band this time round, as Nick and Jim left to pursue new adventures after we finished up touring the last album. So along with Ed Wallis (singing, guitar) and Dan Davis (bass), the record was made by Leon Dufficy, who plays guitar and Ben Walker, who plays drums and sings back up.
After we finished the album, Dan moved to San Francisco, so we have a new bass player, Steve Blackwell, and have also been joined by Henry Thomas on keys to bring the songs to fruition live. Dan is still very much involved though, having made the radiant cover painting.
Tour dates to be announced soon. Hope you enjoy the record.
